Black Visual Grammar XI: Afro-Diasporic Frequencies

WHAT?
A collage workshop that conceptually frames African Diasporas as spaces where geographies,
histories, cultures, and subjectivities overlap and converge. This workshop invites Black people to
construct these intersections through collage making, drawing from collective and personal
imaginings.
All materials provided, No collage experience necessary, Free participation.

FOR WHOM?
Each edition of Black Visual Grammar begins with workshops that focus on Black perspectives,
facilitated for Black people. The workshop will be in english.

OUTCOMES
Collages made during this workshop series will be featured in an installation as part of heimA(R)Ten
II: Afro-Diasporic Frequencies (16-18 October) at Bahnhof Langendreer.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Isaiah Lopaz is a transdisciplinary artist whose work revolves around collage, photography, text, and performance. Born in occupied Tongvaland to a working class African American family, Lopaz is a descendent of Igbo / West African / Geechee / African American / First Nations peoples. His work frequently focuses on tracing where histories often framed as disparate and distinct, overlap and converge. The past, sacred stories and practices, genealogy, and personal mythologies are merged in Lopaz’ practice to underscore intersections of time and space.

This edition is presented as part of the decentralized Heimaten Festival and organized in collaboration with ELK Festival, Bahnhof Langendreer, and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW).
