TRANS:CONTEXTUAL — Visual Art Workshop for QTIA Folks
This workshop take place on a weekend Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 october from 12:00 - 4:00 pm
During two days TRANS:CONTEXTUAL will be a visual art workshop creating a safer, affirming space for trans and queer folks to explore the multiple facets of their identities, bodies, and lived experiences through creative expression.
The workshop invites participants to reflect on the images, assumptions, and narratives that society places onto trans bodies and identities. Together, we will examine how these external representations shape the ways we understand ourselves, and explore how they can be challenged, transformed, and reimagined through visual art.
Rather than prescribing a particular artistic direction, the workshop encourages participants to create from their own experiences, perspectives, and imaginations. Through experimentation with visual language, participants will have the freedom to deconstruct narratives that may feel limiting or oppressive and reconstruct them into representations that reflect their own realities, desires, and understandings of self.
At its heart, TRANS:CONTEXTUAL is about reclaiming the power to represent ourselves. It is an opportunity for queer and trans people to come together, create from a place of intention and authenticity, and imagine new possibilities for how trans bodies and identities can be seen, understood, and represented.
The workshop will also form part of a wider artistic process, with participants invited to develop work that can be shared with the public one month later as part of the TRANS:CONTEXTUAL. This creates a journey from private reflection and collective creation towards public representation, allowing participants to decide what stories they want to bring into the world and how they want those stories to be seen.
TRANS:CONTEXTUAL is ultimately a space for experimentation, self-determination, community, and imagination — a place to question the contexts we have inherited and to collectively reimagine the realities we inhabit.
The workshop is free, with limited places to make sure everyone gets time and support. The workshop will be in english.
